The Research Registry is based on Confluence within the Research Environment to enable GeCIP members to register their research projects and work together on analyses in a shared, private area.

A list of all research projects is available within the Research Registry and other interested GeCIP members can apply to join a particular research project, thereby bringing their expertise and skills to a collective, collaborative effort.

We suggest that a research project is considered to be any set of analyses or investigations that would ordinarily be the subject of a single research article. The projects submitted to the Research Registry will be monitored by Genomics England to ensure that they are within the bounds of a valid ARC approval from the research lead’s domain. The Research Registry also provides Genomics England with an overview of the research activity being undertaken in the Research Environment, as such any files moved through the Airlock must be associated with activities covered by a registered and approved research project.

When a project lead registers a project, they provide a summary of what they plan to carry out; this abstract is visible to all GeCIP members.

If, during Genomics England review, a project is found to have significant overlap with another, we will notify the relevant project leads and advise them to contact each other about potential areas of collaboration. We will not insist upon collaboration between researchers, and will defer to the individual researchers if they believe their projects are different.

The Research Registry will provide a mechanism for GeCIP members to search through the current research projects and to request to join particular research groups. While each research lead is encouraged to positively consider applications to join a research project, the decision on whether to accept or reject an application is entirely theirs.

Go to ‘GeCIP Projects’ in the menu along the top of the page and then click ‘View the Projects Directory’ to access the Research Registry. You will be able to view all projects that have been registered and their status (eg new, under review, publication in draft, etc).

How to register your project

To create a research project within the registry, you must first log in to the Research Environment and open up Confluence. Go to ‘Spaces’ and then click ‘Create space’. Choose ‘Research Project’ in the space options that appear. This should be done by the project lead.

Do not click ‘Create’ in the menu bar along the top as this will create a page

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Project title
  • Project lead
  • Project co-authors
  • Disease area(s) being investigated
  • Abstract (everyone will be able to view this in the Research Registry)
  • Lay summary
  • GeCIP domain(s) the researchers are members of
  • Any other registered projects this new project is part of
  • No labels
